Escape to New York Fashion Week
I was pretty much content with the idea of not attending. I finally came to terms that it was ok. Mom duties called. There was always next season. I couldn’t go… What was I thinking?
I am not one to pass up on an opportunity. Why break the seal now? No matter the struggle I was dealing with at the time, I made it a must to attend every season for the past 3 years. Why say no now? I made a promise to myself. My husband made sure to remind me of that. My why. My dream. The possibilities! Thanks babe.
I only had one day to spare. His only day off, I made arrangements and left. Man, was it a long day, an amazing day. Good and bad, it was perfect. Grab a coffee and get comfortable. There’s so much to tell!
Arriving into the city I met with a dear friend Nikki Poulos. May I add, an incredible designer who is known for her bold prints and vintage inspired looks. Go follow her now! We had a great lunch catching up, creating opportunities and making dreams come true. It’s always an adventure with her.
Did I mention, I got a first look at her Spring and Resort collections? Trust, you will not want to miss! Of course, I was obsessed with a few of her new prints and the details on each look, always fun, fresh, bold and one of a kind. Be sure to look out for it!
Ok, I did miss my first show! Dennis Basso SS ‘16 but I was still grateful to be living the moment, grateful to be at New York Fashion Week! It gives me such a high being there. Even more, attending. Being a part of it! Sorry, I’m getting side tracked… I will say Dennis Basso’s collection was incandescent. Inspired by ‘Women South of the Border’. His lush prints, embroidered appliqués, fur and crocodile accents Basso took us to nights in Havana.
Next stop, Carmen Marc Valvo SS ’16. Which, I did not miss. Can I tell you how absolutely breathtaking it was? A zen garden perfectly envisioned and designed by Valvo himself. Classic silhouettes, strokes of color and lacquered leather with dragonflies and cranes taking flight. Delicate floral were perfectly placed and filigree textures moved strikingly across the runway. He will have you coveting your inner minimalistic self with no fuss. With Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg and Iris Apfel in the stands this was a show that stunned!
Supporting our future designers, the Art Institute was up. Students debuted their collections at New York Fashion Week. With such excitement in their faces, it was interesting to see the visions they possessed, all unique and futuristic in each collection.
I was stoked to catch a few long lost friends before heading home. One, whom I started working New York Fashion Week with. I would slum every season on the floor of her room both eager to make every season worthwhile. So many memories shared with Dani. Man, we have come a long way! It was amazing to see her again *and* Cassandra Bankson! I first met her when I attended Style 360 for the Boy Meets Girl runway show as one of their Live Out Loud Up Standers. What an experience. I predict a #tbt on the blog soon! Yes? No? Both are incredible women. Both were amazing to see!
I must say my one-day escape to New York Fashion Week was a success! Did you attend? Which shows did you love? I want to know!
